How is this different from a face match?

A face match compares one selfie with one photo, usually the photo on the ID or the government record, to confirm the person owns that ID. Face Search compares the selfie with every person you have already verified. The first tells you the ID is theirs. The second tells you whether you have seen them before.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra inside a workflow. Face Search is included in every identity workflow and adds no line to the bill. A search you run by hand from the dashboard, on a photo you upload, is charged per search at the rate on the pricing page.

Does a match decline the customer automatically?

Accepted Answer

Only a face on your blocklist is always declined. For everything else you choose the action. By default a repeat face with the same details is approved, and a repeat face with a different name or a different ID is sent for review. You can change any of these to approve, review or decline.

Question 4

Will it flag a returning customer or a company director?

Accepted Answer

A customer verifying again under the same reference is not matched against themselves. A person who appears twice in different roles, for example as a customer and as a director of a company you onboard, is recognised as one person when the verified ID number is the same, and is not counted as a repeat.

Question 5

Which faces are searched?

Accepted Answer

Only people your own organisation has verified, plus the faces on your own lists. Sandbox and production are searched separately. Nothing is searched across other organisations.

Question 6

What happens if the search cannot run?

Accepted Answer

The verification carries on and the result says the search was skipped and why, for example when no face could be read from the selfie. A search that did not run never fails a customer.

Can we switch it off or remove a face?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can switch Face Search off for a workflow, which also stops new faces from that workflow being kept for searching. Removing a face from a list deletes its stored template and photo, so it stops matching immediately.

How do we test it?

Accepted Answer

In the sandbox you can ask for each outcome by name, such as a repeat face with a different document or a blocked face, and receive the same result and webhook your production integration will get. Nothing in the sandbox is charged.
